Statement from The James Madison Institute on the passage of free market healthcare reform:
This week, the Florida Legislature and Governor Ron DeSantis took commendable steps to addressing healthcare access for all Floridians. We applaud Governor Ron DeSantis, both the House and Senate leadership, along with sponsoring members, on pursuing market-driven and patient-centered reforms.
Allowing patients to access testing and treatment services for routine medical issues like flu and strep and expanding the scope of services offered by highly qualified nurse practitioners will do two things – they will improve health outcomes and they will reduce the cost of care.
Make no mistake – these patient-centered strategies will improve the lives of Floridians far more than expanding any government-controlled, fiscally insolvent bureaucracy. The reforms passed by the Legislature this week and signed into law by Governor DeSantis continue to showcase the Sunshine State as a leader in policies that will have actual positive impacts on patients.
We thank the Legislature and Governor DeSantis for their foresight and their commitment to Floridians’ healthcare.
