JMI President Robert McClure attends the release of  the LeRoy Collins Institute’s “Years in the Making” report on Florida’s underfunded municipal pension plans.“JMI applauds the LeRoy Collins Institute’s research into the pension problems faced by local governments and the resulting increase in transparency surrounding these issues. Years in the Making highlights a pivotal point in the municipal pension debate – that it is a long-standing problem and not a product of recent economic downturns. We hope this report will have an impact on those municipalities that are taking a ‘wait and see’ approach to their problems, and will discourage them from following the path of cities such as Stockton and San Bernardino, California, forced to declare bankruptcy as a result of their own unsustainable pension problems. We do not want to see this happen here in Florida, and the LeRoy Collins Institute’s report is crucial in this effort.” –J. Robert McClure III, Ph.D., President & CEO, The James Madison Institute
