08/15/02 – Mr. Mack S⁠t⁠eps ⁠t⁠o ⁠t⁠he Pla⁠t⁠e

There is a great temptation to use baseball metaphors when commenting on State Representative Connie Mack of Fort Lauderdale and with good reason, since he is descended from one of the sport’s greatest figures. However, I think to do so (except in the title of this op-ed, which I could not resist) would detract from the merit Rep. Mack has brought to his service to the state in the slightly less than two years he has served in the Florida House of Representatives. He ran as a conservative Republican and was elected by a landslide in a district located in one of the most heavily Democratic counties in the state.
