You’re Invited: Madison Movie Night Featuring the 75th Anniversary Re-release of “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington”

    Challenger Learning Center

Mr. Smith Goes To Washington is a 1939 American political comedy-drama film, starring James Stewart and Jean Arthur, about one man’s effect on American politics. The film was controversial when it was released, but was also successful at the box office in addition to making Stewart a major movie star. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, winning for Best Original Story. In 1989, the Library of Congress added the movie to the United States National Film Registry, for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

Best-selling author, Peter Schweizer, will provide thoughts after the film on how to curb “crony capitalism,” influence-peddling, and “corporate welfare” in our day. His books and research have been covered by 60 Minutes, The New York Times, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, Newsweek Magazine, Fox News, and many others.
