JMI Applauds President Trump on Signing Groundbreaking Right to Try Legislation

Statement by The James Madison Institute President and CEO, Dr. J. Robert McClure

Tallahassee- Today, President Donald Trump signed The Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act of 2017. Thanks to the leadership and hard work demonstrated by President Trump and Congress, this bipartisan legislation has made access to potentially life-saving experimental medicines and treatment options a reality to tens of thousands of terminally-ill patients and creates protections for any American seeking to save his or her own life.

“On this historic occasion, we would like to thank President Donald Trump, the leadership in Congress, and the thousands of stakeholders who have labored for years to make Right to Try a reality. The James Madison Institute worked diligently with these leaders and stakeholders. As a result of this groundbreaking legislation Americans will now have the opportunity and freedom to choose medical options that they otherwise would not have. It is a testament to the commitment of the President and the Congress that we can count this as a win for free-market health care.”
