05/12/05 - Governor and Mrs. Bush Hold Reception for JMI Board Members

Governor Jeb Bush and First Lady Columba Bush welcomed current and former JMI board members to a reception held at the Governor's Mansion on Thursday, May 12.

Guests included House Speaker Allan Bense, JMI Board Chair L. Charles Hilton, Jr. of Panama City, JMI Vice Chair and Founding Chairman J. Stanley Marshall, and board members Robert Feagin of Tallahassee, John Hrabusa of Lakeland, John Kirtley of Tampa, Bill McCollum of Orlando and Jeffrey Swain of Tallahassee.  Former board members in attendance included Bill Adams of Jacksonville, Martin Fiorentino of Jacksonville, Jean McCully of Tallahassee, Wayne Mixson of Tallahassee, Frank Shaw of Tallahassee, Judge Frank Shepherd of Coral Gables and Tom Sylte of Pensacola.

In his welcoming remarks, Governor Bush referenced his long-term relationship with the Institute and commended JMI on its proven commitment to protecting the freedoms we all hold dear.  Speaker Bense thanked JMI for providing well-researched publications that help House members "stick to their principles and keep their backbones straight."

Thanks to Governor and Mrs. Bush and their staff for their generous hospitality in opening their home for this special event.
