School vouchers were first proposed nearly 50 years ago by free-market economist and Nobel laureate Milton Friedman.  Yet only recently has it looked as if vouchers might actually gain nationwide acceptance.  The turnabout can be attributed, in large part, to the success of pioneering vouncher programs within various states.
