William Mattox is an award-winning writer who currently serves as a Resident Fellow at The James Madison Institute. A registered Independent, Mattox often works on public policy issues (like education reform) which stand to benefit diverse constituencies.
Over the course of his 25-year career, Mattox has:
* written numerous articles for The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA TODAY, and other major publications;
* spoken at educational conferences in Geneva, Prague, Rome, and Vatican City;
* led writing workshops at Duke, Vanderbilt, the University of Virginia, and other major universities;
* served as a speechwriter for several Members of Congress in Washington, D.C.;
* directed a documentary film and a number of other media projects, including a public service ad campaign that ran in Rolling Stone; and
* spearheaded a number of quantitative and qualitative research projects, working closely with polling firms, focus group organizers, and “think tank” scholars.
Mattox graduated summa cum laude in journalism from the University of Georgia and has done graduate work in sociology at the University of Maryland. In 1997, he received the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady Distinguished Alumni Award.
An active volunteer in his community, Mattox received a 2002 national “double-goal coach” of the year award from the Positive Coaching Alliance at Stanford University for his work promoting character development in youth sports.
Mattox and his wife have four children.
